Behold

Through squinted eyes I see
iridescent rainbows
jetting out from the suns rays,
casting beams of light toward me.

A tree, with its limbs and leaves,
cut in and out of the bright beams
fragmenting our energized union.

Quite like life, as I ride the lightness of highs
only to be interrupted by the darkness of lows.

For how would I ever know I was on a high
if I didn’t have the other experience to behold?

That
which we don’t like
is actually
the very thing
that helps us
understand
what it is
we have.

So be grateful for the darkness
that cuts through the light
as that is how we grasp
there was only light
to begin with.
