Refresh

Would not a tall glass of
ice-cold, crystal spring water
be preferred on a hot day
to a glass of lukewarm water
pulled from a murky lake?

So too does the spirit within
prefer to swallow up that which refreshes;
thoughts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and such.

For thinking leads to desire,
and desire propels all of life
as out of the overflow of the heart
the mouth speaks and the hands do.

I am a vessel in three parts —
body, spirit, and mind.
will I strive for purity
or allow pollutants their way?
