As usual, I ate lunch outside, under a tree, but today I was facing the fence. It made me think how horrible it would be to live stuck behind a fence, with no hope of the freedom on the other side.
You don’t have to be in prison to live a life behind fences and walls. How often we close off a part of our lives for the presumed safety isolation provides. No one can hurt me when I live behind these walls. And maybe that’s true. No one else can hurt you. But by doing so, you’re certainly hurting yourself.
Life is meant to be lived in communion with others. The best and most worthwhile pursuits of life will always be in relation to others. And so will the worst pains and tragedies. It’s the yin and yang of life. With one, comes the other. But the joys and happiness possible are always worth the risk…
So tear down your walls, open the gates on your fences and live in the freedom on the other side.
